About Nicole

Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Nicole Scarberry, and I am a missionary to the Dominican Republic.  Here is the story (in short form) of how the journey began . . .

Salvation
I was born in a Christian family and grew up attending Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus, OH.  From my earliest memory, I had the blessing of being taught the Word of God and the work of Christ on the cross.  At the age of 6, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

Growing Up
Some of my earliest memories of my Christian life include the pull of my heart toward missions.  From watching slideshow presentations in church to reading missionary biographies and even developing a keen interest in languages and cultures, the “adventure” of foreign missions intrigued me.
But it wasn’t solely adventure that drew me – it was the people.  Almost immediately after my salvation, God began burdening my heart for lost friends, family members, neighbors. . .those who had yet to accept Christ as their Savior.

Growing up at Memorial, I was blessed with many opportunities to serve in the church, in the community, and around the world.  I received much ministry training from my local church (youth pastor, pastor, and parents) during those formative years.  It was here that I learned the significance of the Gospel and the importance of the local church.  Through all of these experiences, foreign and abroad, the Lord impressed on my heart, not a place of service but a love for people and a desire to serve where He would have me.

College Training
After high school, I attended Clearwater Christian College from 2003 -2006 where I majored in elementary education while minoring in Bible and missions.  The Lord used this time at Clearwater to teach me much.  It was here that He taught me what it meant to really walk with Him - to not just read my Bible everyday but to truly talk with Him, to listen to Him, to love Him.

God’s Call to the DR
My 4th grade class at Las Palmas
In 2012, God opened the door for me to serve in the Dominican Republic, using my teaching degree at The Palms Christian School - an incredible school that offers a Christ-centered bilingual education in the city of San Pedro de Macoris.  During that year teaching, I assisted church planters Mike and Annie Dombrosky on the weekends.   At the end of the year, they invited me to come back and join their church planting team.  I returned for nine months, working specifically with women’s and children’s ministries.  During this time, I sensed God calling me to join the Dombroskys in full-time service.  I am currently on deputation, looking forward to returning to serve Christ and make Him known in the DR.
